Senior / Principal Engineer

A key part of the MiniFAB group is the Product Development team who are responsible for translating early stage feasibility and design control activities to prototype solutions ready for transfer to final product development activities and manufacturing.

The Principal Engineer is responsible for supporting all engineering activities within the T& I team. This will include consulting into projects, mentoring the engineering team, and implementing strategic projects to enhance MiniFAB’s service.

 

Duties:

  • Accountable for implementing and maintaining best engineering practices within the Product Development team
  • Mentoring of engineering team to ensure excellence and efficiency
  • Review and approval of designs prior to build and tests
  • Review and approval of test plans prior to implementation
  • Critical review of data to approve recommended actions
  • Responsible for ensuring efficient transfer of developments from PD group to New Product Introduction group
  • Identification and implementation of engineering capabilities to expand MiniFAB’s existing resources
  • Interaction with clients on an as-needed basis to support project and sales activities
  • Allocation of resources to projects
  • Manage customer relationships across the product portfolio

 

Essential Skills & Requirements:

  • Significant experience (15+ years) working as a Product Development or Design Engineer
  • Demonstrated experience as a successful team leader
  • Experience working in fast paced, innovative, high quality, regulated, engineering environment such as medical device, food, automotive or similar industry is essential.  IVD system development would be ideal
  • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or similar engineering discipline
  • A demonstrated competency in delivering design solutions for high quality, low cost, volume manufactured products
  • A rigorous approach to engineering design assessment including, but not limited to, engineering calculation
  • Outstanding 3D CAD skills
  • Excellent 2D CAD skills with a solid understanding of GD&T
  • Extensive and demonstrable experience with Design for Manufacture principles
  • Understanding of common polymer fabrication / prototyping techniques
  • Intimate understanding of Design control, Validation and Verification processes under a Quality Management System (ISO13485 would be ideal)
  • Must be hands-on
  • Excellent attention to detail and self-motivation to deliver work to the highest standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, team work and ability to take initiative
