Being totally customer focused, MiniFAB understands the time constraints of our customers. Working with you, MiniFAB will develop and implement solutions that meet your exact requirements and reduce your time to market.
Contract product development
MiniFAB combines years of professional experience, expertise and know-how to translate your specific needs into manufacturable solutions for a variety of different application areas.
MiniFAB has extensive experience in integrating biosensors, bio-analytical processes, sampling handling and control into integrated polymer based disposable cartridges for applications in point of care diagnostics, food quality control, and environmental monitoring. In-depth knowledge of material characteristics, surface modification and functionalisation techniques, and bio compatibility requirements enables MiniFAB to minimize the risk in developing products that meet the regulatory requirements.
MiniFAB implements a 5 staged product development plan in order to reach the required objectives and goals of our clients and customers. We often work with early stage companies and help them to reach a technology and product demonstration that is “investment ready” to trigger further financial investment into the company. We also develop for our clients full manufacturing solutions to meet the demands of regulated approval, for example FDA compliant manufacture of dedicated disposable biosensor cartridges for medical diagnostic applications.
In the early phase of working with a client, MiniFAB devotes significant effort and time developing a common understanding of the problem, defining the opportunity (such as implementing a product roadmap), developing initial conceptual designs and providing early insight into any possible risks and subsequent identifications risk mitigation strategies. The outcome is a well informed analysis of the opportunity and a clear development programme to advance your product from concept definition and generation, to prototype demonstration through to volume production.
Manufacturing
MiniFAB offers both rapid prototyping and full manufacturing services for polymer based micro devices and microsystems. Key is MiniFAB’s strict adherence to a total manufacturing view that addresses the system level requirements (such as system level interfaces and integration issues), and an awareness of the manufacturing compliance frameworks such as FDA, GLP and GMP for medical device trials and certification.
MiniFAB’s emphasis is the simplified manufacturing of products using batch processing, photolithographic techniques, minimal types of materials and numbers of components. These techniques lead to reduced manufacturing costs, increased product reliability and the development of low cost disposable devices, creating a competitive advantage. The use of high throughput manufacturing strategies, matched with rapid turnaround development tools enable MiniFAB to demonstrate design concepts faster than anybody else in the industry. This rapid validation approach is especially suited to design verification and optimization tasks requesting short lead times and fast turn-around and thus simplifies component and design considerably. The developed and optimized design is then transferred to a manufacturing process suitable for large-scale production (e.g. injection moulding, embossing), which provides prototypes for clinical testing.
Microfabrication
Additionally, MiniFAB provides access to our microfabrication, micromachining and packaging facility. The range of microfabrication services includes: lithography, micro machining, laser based micro structuring, electro plating and electro forming, MEMs based packaging, polymer based microfabrication.
Equipment within the facility includes: design and simulation software; laser micro-machining; high precision micro-milling machine; thermal embosser and NIL Nanoimprinter; mask aligners; lamination/bonding equipment; wet chemical etching stations; Physical Vapour Deposition tools; electroforming/electroplating systems; and replication tools (both hot embossing and injection moulding systems). Additionally, MiniFAB utlises various metrology techniques for the quality control of manufactured components and devices, including scanning electron microscopes, confocal microscope and various optical microscopes with customized vision systems, spectrometers and dedicated microfluidic test benches.
